November 1, 2008 - Splitrail Farm Home Invasions

There have been home invasions in the past few weeks. Most recently was this past week. Homes on Lots 41 and 2A2 have been broken into and robbed while their occupants were there asleep. In both instances the victimized residents heard some minor sounds and attributed it to something else than a burglar.

The burglars have cut window screens to come through partially open windows as well as “bumped” front door locks to enter homes late at night – Computers, and other valuables have been stolen.

The Campton Hills Police Department is actively investigating both home invasions.

Please report any suspicious behavior to Village Police Department 630-584-0330, who is actively investigating both home entries – ask for either chief Greg Anderson or Officer Robert Reichardt.

September 15, 2008 - Dangerous Intersection

Last Sat morning, on our "eventful day", I had pulled into Splitrail off Silver Glen, and as I passed Cutwood Lane, a child on a bicycle riding down the "Cutwood hill" collided with the side of our minivan. The great news is that he is fine (Lives on Lot 23). He was hurrying home to find his cat, and said he was making a wide turn because he was going fast, but couldn't see me or hear the van because of the reeds and growth (on Lot 10) blocking the view onto Splitrail lane from the North. I as well did not see him coming down the hill on Cutwood due to the obstructed view. I followed him home and visited with his mother, new to our neighborhood. The van has a number of dents and scratches, but fortunately, I was traveling slow, and he did not ride out in front of me.

I have contacted Sam G. at the Township and asked that he look at the intersection, which he said he would do right away. A stop sign on Cutwood may help adults, but the real hazard is to children on bicyles – thank God I was traveling slow, and that the child did not ride out into my path. I will keep you posted on Sam’s findings.

March 2, 2008 - Campton Hills Police Newsletter

Reported criminal activity in Campton Hills remains at a minimum. I am sure with all of the snow and cold weather it has helped suppress crime.  There are no patterns to report to you but I did want to pass on a memo from Don Bryant who is the head of Kane County's Emergency Management office.

"Severe weather in the form of tornadoes, deadly lightning, flash floods, damaging winds, and destructive hail strike Illinois each year, sometimes with incredible violence.  Last year Illinois only had 22 tornadoes, but in 2006, Illinois set a state record with 124 tornadoes.  This surpassed the record of 120 set in 2003.  Illinois has an average of 41 tornadoes a year which makes it fifth in the nation in tornadoes per square mile.

In an effort to increase public awareness to the threat severe weather poses, the week of March 2nd through March 8th has been designated "Severe
Weather Preparedness Week" throughout the State of Illinois.

On Tuesday, March 4th, at approximately 10 am, a test tornado warning will be issued by the National Weather Service.  This test warning will be dissemniated through the NOAA Weather Radio system and County's Emergency Alert Radio System.  Many commercial tadio and TV stations will participate in this drill by passing along the test torando warning message."

Bryant goes on and suggests that this is the time for each of us to test our own preparedness, both at home and work.  You should make sure that you have designated a safe location in your home for protections should severe weather occur.

I would again ask that you forward this email to as many Campton Hills residents as possible as this lest continues to grow and the goal of CHPD is to use this as an effective communication tool.

If the Campton Hills Police can be of assistance, please call our non-emergency number at 630-584-0330.

Februrary 7, 2008 - Campton Hills Police Newsletter

I have several things to make you aware of.

The Kane County Sheriff's Department has put out a watch for neighborhoods on the west side of St. Charles and Geneva for home burglaries.  There appears to be professional burglars targeting neighborhoods.  Descriptions of possible offenders and vehicles include a gold or burnt-orange Mitsubushi with a male black driver or a small red vehicle or pick-up truck.  Most of the burglaries have occurred during the day.  Campton Hills has had NO pattern of reported burglaries and we have had only one in the last 3 months.  Please keep you eyes open and if you see a supicious vehicle, CALL!

AT&T has also put out an alert for a telephone scam.  A *72 service is available to have all of your calls forwarded to another number.  The scam works by someone calling identifying themselves as a technician, ask you to dial *72 and then their phone number.  This activates the forward.  This is used by people wanting to receive collect calls (often long distance) that would then be billed back to your phone number.  Always make sure you are positive of the identity of the caller you are talking to.

We have also had a lot of mailbox damage done within the last week.  This appears to be in various portions of the village.  We are trying to catch the offenders, but we really need you to call if you see or hear anything.

I would like to thank everyone who has forward these emails to your friends and neighbors.  The response has been outstanding and if you know of anyone else who would like to be on the list, please email me and I will add them.
